About

Hello, everyone! My name is Paul Ketchum and this is my blog about model trains. I am currently 57 years-old (as I type this) and I live in upstate, NY with my wife, Adriana and stepson, Daniel. We have a dog named Ace, two cats who are named Felix and Sadie, we have a rescue pigeon named Lucky and many koi fish without names that live in our backyard koi pond.

Back in January of 2024, Adriana, Daniel and I took a train ride from Utica, NY up through the Adirondack Mountains. The train ride on the Adirondack Railroad was only 3 hours long and we have taken other train trips in the past, but for some reason this train ride rekindled a desire that I had to create a model railroad.

When I was a kid I was gifted an H0 scale Santa Fe train set one year (I don’t remember the brand) which I later destroyed by taking the cars apart, and when I was in my early 20’s I started buying N scale model train related things but I never got to a point to where I could set anything up.

Now that I’m older and actually have a dedicated place to set up a model railroad, I figured it would be a good idea to have a place to document the construction of my model railroad. Adriana and I are currently renovating our 185 year-old house and it consumes most of our free time. Once the renovation is complete, I will be able to start working on my “man cave” in a portion of our basement.

Right now I know very little about running model trains, this blog is basically a place to document my progress.
